The first is that it is a reference to our specific process for manufacturing stained glass windows. The second is that it references the traditional techniques we use for glassmaking that have been passed down for generations among glassmakers in Scotland, the home country of our owner, Martin Faith.
The History of Scottish Stained Glass
Scottish Stained Glass was founded in the year 1989 by owner Martin Faith. Growing up in Glasgow, Scotland, one of the stained glass capitals of the world, Martin was taught the art of making stained glass windows by his father. The techniques Martin learned had been practiced by glassmakers in Scotland for centuries, and had origins reaching as far back as 675 AD.
However, Martin and his father took the construction of their stained glass windows one step further by applying methods of modern engineering to perfect their processes. Martin’s father was an engineer and an excellent scientist and mathematician. Both Martin and his father knew that for their stained glass to be of the highest quality and as perfect as possible, their measurements and techniques would have to be precise.
By approaching their work in a technical manner, Martin and his father were able to produce stained glass windows that were not only very beautiful, but also perfect in a technical manner, very durable, and precise. Martin then took this process with him when he started his own stained glass company, which has now expanded to Houston.
