Stained Glass Restoration: The Rising Church

Stained Glass Restoration: The Rising Church

We’re honored to have been able to work on so many incredible church stained glass restoration projects throughout the years. Our most recent project has been successfully completed at the Rising Church. This church is located in Arvada, CO, and is celebrated for its comprehensive homeless outreach. One evening after the church was closed, a pedestrian thought they overheard noises from inside. In order to try to stop the perceived threat, rocks were thrown through almost all of the stained glass windows. Fortunately, there was no one inside but the windows were damaged.

Church Stained Glass Restoration Challenges and Process

These windows were all originally built back in 1913 and required a full restoration. Our team transported them back to our studio to undergo this process. New lead came was created for all of the framing while glass was restored either through our inventory or custom manufacturing for a perfect match. All of the hand-painted pieces were mended back together through a specialty glass mending process. With all the glass and lead restored, the next challenge we faced was the framing. The original windows had the exterior lead came removed in order to fit into the existing window frames. We had to resize the windows and shave down certain parts on-site in order to ensure they fit properly. Additional protective glass was added in order to provide full protection. This was custom built vented polycarbonate.
